The Fifth Ruby Run

Half Marathon 2007

The 2006 Ruby Run Half Marathon took place on Sunday June 11th, starting in Holsworthy and finishing in Hatherleigh. The race was well attended, with over 150 runners and nearly as many walkers taking part. The weather was thankfully slightly cooler than forecast! It’s time to get into training for the 5^th Ruby Run Half Marathon on Sunday 10^th June 2007 starting in Hatherleigh at 10.30 am. We are hoping to make this year’s event the biggest and best so far so get your running shoes on and help us to make that happen.

This year we have chosen three organisations to benefit from the proceeds of the day and they are the South West Multiple Sclerosis Centre (MS), Devon Air Ambulance and St John Ambulance so please collect as much sponsorship as possible for these very deserving causes. You may wish to run or walk for your own particular cause but please consider sharing your sponsorship money with Ruby Run and help these organisations as well.

As you will know if you have taken part before, the course is all downhill from Hatherleigh, well, except at Chapel Street where there is a slight incline! This year we are going to introduce a Team Event with a trophy for the winners. The event involves each member covering two miles and the last runner covering the remaining 3.2 miles so come on all pubs, clubs and groups, put up a team and have some fun while earning some sponsorship. Every member will pay the full entry fee and receive a t-shirt. We will also be having a Fun Run for the mums, dads and the youngsters which will be about 1.5 miles long starting in Stanhope Park and finishing in The Square just before the marathon runners appear.

As before there will be trophies for the three male and female runners in the marathon, trophies for the first local male and female and medals for all registered Fun Run finishers. Come along and make this a great day and if you would be prepared to help by being a marshal, man a water station, put up barriers etc just give me a call. Look forward to seeing you on the day.
